NPL were subcontracted to design, supply and install steel tubular piles for a new mid-market rental housing development in Glasgow’s east end. The project will see 36 new 1 and 2 bedroom apartments built on the site of a former nursing home.
Access and Egress was a big concern for the site, due to its location, just off Alexandra Parade. Northern Piling created a traffic management plan, along with west of Scotland haulage and Cruden, to make a suitable access route in and out of the site, to reduce the risks of traffic jams or any accidents. Noise and vibration levels were also a concern, as the site is located in between the local park, a primary school and tenement houses. Vibration monitors were set up beside structures that where most at risk, to monitor and record levels. Vibration level limit were put in place, to assure no structural damage would occur to the surrounding structures.
The project took a total of 2 weeks to complete, 1 week ahead of program. Both the 2no. static tests and 6no. dynamic tests were carried out during this time.
